The workshops aim to cover all skill levels from the inexperienced to the more advanced. This makes Westie Bootcamp SOUTH the perfect weekend to improve your dancing.
No matter what level you come in at, you're sure to enjoy this entertaining weekend of social dancing, in-depth workshops and hints and tips from the pros' of West Coast Swing. It's set to be an exciting and fun event with the emphasis on 'enjoyment', designed to build your confidence, improve your dancing and provide a lovely, relaxed place to do it in.
The Venue is magnificent, standing in 40 acres of stunning grounds. It's close to Heathrow (6 miles), so friends from the Continent have easy access and there are plenty of free parking for our attendees.
See the event schedule from 2020, as an example of the level of classes offered. A 2021 schedule will be uploaded nearer the time and emailed out to attendees.
These especially planned Levels offer a unique opportunity to experience the highest level of instruction with a friendly and supportive group of a similar skill level. You will be expected to stay in the same Level throughout the weekend which will help to progress your social dancing.
We want EVERYONE to enjoy and get the most out of the workshops this weekend. This means being realistic and participating in the Level that is appropriate to your current level of WCS dance experience. Please respect and be fair to your fellow dancers. If you are struggling in a workshop you may not be at the right level for your current experience.
West Coast Swing Classes will run throughout the weekend and a programme, check-in details and any other information you need will be emailed 7-10 days prior to the start of the Bootcamp.
This might be your first introduction to WCS or you may have taken a few WCS classes already but are not confident with the basics and still counting steps. You’ll be introduced to the basics and given all the tools you’ll need for a great start on your WCS journey.
You are already taking WCS lessons and although you have the basics sorted you need to gain confidence and take your dancing up a notch. You’ve probably been dancing for 6 months or less, but have been regularly attending classes.
In this level you’ll learn new moves and hopefully build your confidence to help you along on your journey.
If you start off in this level but find it too challenging or feel the need to work on your basics, please go back to Level One.
You have been dancing and attending WCS classes regularly and no longer need to count. You have a solid knowledge of the basics (sugar push, left side pass, right side underarm turn, tuck turn and whip).
You may have competed in Newcomer or Novice previously and want to take your WCS to the next level, learning new moves, shapes and variations. You need to work on your partnering skills, technique and timing, improving your social dancing.
It's expected that you regularly attend Intermediate level workshops/intensives and weekend events. You social dance frequently and feel ready to introduce more complex patterns to your dancing and are would like to accelerate your learning. Workshops will be fast paced working on connection, footwork, pattern structure and styling.
If you are having trouble keeping up with a class, please be fair to others in this level and drop down to Level 3.
Olivier & Virginie Massart
Olivier has lived in Lyon since 2010 but has retained his Belgian Humour. He is the Event Director of WCS French Open and travels throughout Europe sharing his passion for WCS.
Virginie comes from Lyon and works full time running her dance school and travelling Europe wide to teach with Olivier. Her elegance on the dance floor and gentle teaching style, is a perfect complement to Olivier.
We have Olivier along with wife Virginie to thank for choreographing and teaching the International Flash Mob, which groups worldwide have learned and performed every September for several years.
Browly & Inga Kurciša
Browly fell in love with WCS in 2010 and began his new adventure, traveling throughout Europe taking workshops and intensive courses with some of the best known and most respected teachers of this dance.
Today, Browly is best known for his clear and logical technique classes, and students love how he approaches musical interpretation in the dance. Passing on technique in a simple, efficient way, but also his strong values of respect for partners and enjoyment of the dance.
Breaking down “complicated concepts” into simple ideas with fun exercises makes it easier for students to communicate in the dance.
Kevin & Aggie Town
Kevin and Aggie are known for their fun, engaging classes, strong focus on technique and unique approach to teaching.
They both compete in the All Star Division and regularly judge, teach and perform at International Events within Europe and the U.S.
They also run their own classes, Evolve WCS. Kevin also DJ's events and freestyles under the mysterious alias DJ K Dawg, because he's so gangsta ;)
Naomi Hulbert
Naomi has been dancing West Coast Swing for over 10 years, competing at the highest level not only in the UK, but also in the USA and Europe. Her most recent achievements have put her top of the league in West Coast Swing and her fun, bubbly personality comes alive on the dance floor.
Naomi has endless experience in many dance forms including ballet, contemporary, salsa, jive and line dancing. She also has a bachelors degree in dance theatre which helped expand her wealth of knowledge and technique in dance. Teaching is one of her many passions and she thrives on seeing the community grow.
